On a trip to St. Louis, I happened upon the East Terminal building at
the St. Louis-Lambert International Airport. Though the steel in use there
is not HSS but "standard" rolled shapes, I found the beauty of
it quite captivating.

I particularly found the "double structure" system fascinating.
The use of dual columns and trusses would become one of the hallmarks of
my design.

Taking the dual columns at St. Louis another step led me to Norman
Foster's Renault Factory. It uses cables to simultaneously strengthen
and stabilize the structure. I found the structural detail drawings
particularly useful.
