personal

After I had suffered through the first iteration of a website back in 1995, the first thing I wanted to post was my personal philosophy about things. I called this "the MSE Manifesto," and it remained a prominent segment of my personal web site through the next two iterations.

When it came time to design ellars.com, I naturally desired to include it once again. However, I hesitated doing so. Why? Because it seems no one these days can handle anything but pure Political Correctness. Everyone stresses the need to keep an open mind about things, yet from what I have witnessed in the media, "open" to most people actually means "nothing I disagree with." So, I shuffled the personal-thoughts section off the main page and (relatively) buried it in a personal section. And I left it there, for over nine months, hoping that if I ignored it long enough, it might just go away. Of course, it didn't. :-)

I have decided that enough is enough, and something must be done. Therefore, I am officially opening this segment of my website.

What does THINK contain? Strangely enough, my thoughts. By that, I mean everything from general, sleepy meanderings (rants) to specific, well-researched opinions (essays). But in the end, that is all they are: opinions. The freedom of expression goes beyond some document that a couple of guys drafted centuries ago: it is a fundamental part of human nature, and anything that interferes with that freedom interferes with what it means to be human[1].

I will leave you now with a word of warning: If you are easily offended, do not follow any of the links on this page. Click the back button on your browser and leave now. If you decide to continue, remember this: I am not trying to insult you, your people, your heritage, your whatever. Keep the open mind you are probably always asking other people to keep, and I'll do the same.
